How a 1099 paystub differs from a W-2 stub

1099 contractors are paid gross — there's no federal income tax, Social Security, or Medicare withholding. The PDF shows your earnings, any deductions you elect to track, and net pay (which equals gross since nothing is withheld).

You're responsible for paying self-employment tax (15.3%) quarterly to the IRS. That's separate from the paystub.

When to use 1099 stubs

Use these for rental applications, mortgage pre-qualification, personal loans, visa income documentation, or simply to keep clean records of payments from each client.
